The assembly (1) has a set of plates (5a-5c) driven in rotation by cranks (6), where the plates are meshed with a driving chain (2) i.e. link chain. A free wheel system (8) is placed between the plates and the cranks so as to drive the rotation of the plates by the cranks in a direction and for separating the plates in other direction. A central axle (7) is integrated to the cranks and ensures transmission of pedaling effort from the cranks towards the free wheel system. The system includes an inner ring fixed on the central axle and ratchets restrained by springs.
