The invention relates to a method and a device for measuring gaps and outcrops between parts fixed to an assembly in the absence of one of them.This method is essentially characterized by the positioning of at least one sensor (1) in a position allowing it to have a measuring zone comprising the edge (bt) of the first piece and the indexing point (i1 or i2) on the assembly (V) support for the second missing piece, the emission of a LASER line for the formation of a first image of the measurement zone, the acquisition of a first image by this sensor, the emission of additional illumination for the formation of a second image of this measurement zone in which the indexing point (i1 or i2) on the set (V) will appear in Chinese shadow, the acquisition by this sensor (1) of the second image, the data processing of the images acquired and determination by a respective measurement algorithm of play and outcropping between the first e t second piece.Application for any measure of clearance and outcropping between parts on a support assembly, in the absence of one of the parts, particularly in the field of motor vehicles.
