The method involves depositing agglomerate ceramic particles (4) on a part of a surface (1a) of a piece i.e. steel wearing plate (1), during a fusion operation, using a distribution element (5) having an outlet (5a). The outlet is disposed near an end (3a) of a deposit element (3) e.g. cored filler wire, in such a manner that a coating layer (2) is formed by a composite material comprising metal alloy e.g. iron and non-ferrous alloy, and the ceramic particles, where the ceramic particles are selected from alumina, zirconia, silica and a mixture of alumina and zirconia.
