The column (2) has a light source (3) formed of an LED, placed close to a upper terminal part (21) of the column and arranged so as to direct a light beam towards a pavillon (11) and a lateral panel (14) forming a passenger compartment (1) of a vehicle, without directly lighting the compartment. The light source is mounted inside the column so as to illuminate across a hole pierced in the column. Positive and negative electrical conductors extend inside the terminal part of the column, where the conductors are connected to the light source and to a power supply network.
