The cigarette has a mouthpiece that is fastened to a tobacco strand by a covering foil. The covering foil is formed to be transparent and comprises a glow-restraining coating that is formed in the edge section turned toward the tobacco strand. The covering foil is provided on the inner side turned toward the mouthpiece. The covering foil consists of a foil made of cellulose or polylactic acid. The thickness of the foil is in the range of 20-35 micrometer.
