The method involves measuring position and speed of a cable (4) using a sensor, and calculating an estimation value of a state of an openable device i.e. lateral door (1), where the openable device is connected to an engine (3) of a mechanical system (20) by the cable for transmitting force from the engine to the openable device so as to drive the device in a translation direction. A control order of tension to be transmitted to the engine is calculated using specific formula. An independent claim is also included for an openable device provided with a measuring unit for measuring speed of a cable.
