The device has an assembling part (11) provided in a piece (1) and fixed on a coupling part (21) of another piece (2). The coupling part has a continuous cord (22) delimiting a closed zone, whose shape is homothetic to that of the assembling part. The cord covers a surface higher than the assembling part for centering and adjusting relative positioning of the pieces before assembling. The assembling part is formed by a projected tab. An independent claim is also included for a method for positioning pieces of a body structure of a motor vehicle.
