The device has a support head (12) with a retaining slot (20) that is open at an end of the head and on a side of the head. The slot has narrow portion (20A) with a width adapted to thickness of a metal strip (16) of a belt. The narrow portion is located between a widened portion (20B) of the slot and an end of the slot, and an end (16A) of the strip has a boss (22A) projected on a face of the strip. The boss has dimensions adapted to width of the widened portion, so that the end of the strip is inserted in the slot by the side of the head by placing the boss in the widened portion.
