The method involves cutting an itinerary into segments and associating an invariant value representing estimated minimal energy consumption to each segment. Simplified value representing average energy consumption is determined for each segment by modulation of the invariant value via a penalty value depending on the presence of slowdown zone e.g. hospital zone, in the segment. The simplified value is adapted to the invariant value in the absence of zone. The simplified values of the segments are added to produce a result representing estimated average energy consumption for itinerary. An independent claim is also included for a method for minimizing energy consumption of vehicle between a departure point and an arrival point.
