The method involves comparing a content portion of an associative table of a new version with a content of a reference zone in a memory i.e. electrically EPROM type memory, by an electronic control unit. A fault is triggered by detection of different content, and a remote coding fault is stored in the memory. The content portion of the table is copied into the reference zone of the memory in such a manner to subsequently compare the copied content portion with a same content portion of the table from subsequent version of software. An independent claim is also included for a device for providing a coherent download of a new version of software with respect to parameterization of the software in a memory of an electronic control unit in a vehicle.
