The method involves determining an overheating risk of an exhaust gas post-treatment device i.e. particle filter, during regeneration of the device. Recirculation of low pressure exhaust gas towards an inlet of an internal combustion engine i.e. diesel engine, of a drive train of a motor vehicle is increased and intake of air towards the engine is reduced, in case of detected overheating risk. Verification is made whether situation of the overheating risk of the device is raised, in case of the detected risk, and in case of increasing of the recirculation and reducing of the air intake. An independent claim is also included for a drive train for a motor vehicle, comprising an internal combustion engine and an oxygen sensor.
