The method involves creating separate absorbing surfaces around an isotropic monocrystalline gamma photon detecting bar (1) to create a juxtaposition of monocrystal prismatic sections (6). Energies received at light flow measuring units (4, 5) e.g. photodetectors, are compared for estimating an impact position of a gamma photon in a given section of the detecting bar, where the light flow measuring units are mounted at longitudinal ends (2, 3) of the detecting bar, respectively. An independent claim is also included for a monocrystalline gamma photon detecting bar for implementing an optical weighting method.
