METHOD FOR TARGET ACQUISITION BY A GUIDED PROJECTILE AND PROJECTILE OPERATING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS METHOD

The method involves guiding of a missile by an electromagnetic sensor during the terminal stages of its flight. The sensor responds to electromagnetic signals emitted by the target vehicle. The flight of the missile is initially slowed by opening a parachute (4). The missile is re-oriented so its longitudinal axis is in the vertical plane above the target. To locate the target, a conical rotational movement is set up around the vertical axis of the missile path. This rotation has a first angular speed. The electromagnetic sensor inside the missile is rotated in a conical path round the axis of the missile, at a second angular speed, significantly higher than first angular speed. The missile axis is realigned as a result of the target detection by gas jets.
