PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation catalyst for aromatic compounds contained in a solvent in the presence of sulfur and/or nitrogen and/or oxygen, or active by adding one or more kinds of group VIII precious metals, one or more pieces of carrier selected from the group of amorphous carriers or imperfectly crystallized carriers and silicon as a dopant element. ;SOLUTION: A precursor containing one or more kinds of group VIII precious metals is measured and molded, then one or more solutions containing silicon are impregnated with the precursor and are left alone at respectively specified temperatures under a wet atmosphere, and further are dried and baked. The group VIII precious metals to be used are ruthenium, rhodium, platinum and the like, and the precious metal sources to be used are oxychlorides and the like, e.g. halide, nitrate and ammonia.ruthenium oxychloride. The silicon sources to be used are ethyl orthosilicate, silane, polysilane, halide silicate and the like. Thus this catalyst can be used for the hydrogenation of aromatic compounds, the dearomatization or reduction of aromatic compounds as petroleum fractions containing a small amount of sulfur and/or nitrogen and/or oxygen.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
