Top-view image generation apparatus and top-view image display method

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a top view image generating device and a top view image display method capable of displaying much information effective for a driver by reducing useless information in a top view image. PSOLUTION: When a top view image 11 obtained by looking at one's own vehicle 12 and the periphery of the own vehicle 12 from an upside virtual view is generated, the top view image 11 is cut from a synthetic image 16 so that an obstacle 13 lies at end side of the top view image 11 when the obstacle 13 approaches one side of the own vehicle 12 and is larger than a predetermined size. Thus, a shielded section 15 shielded by the obstacle 13 is not displayed in the top view picture 11, and an image on non-existing side of the shielded section 15 can be displayed large, so that the display region of the top view picture 11 can be effectively utilized.
