PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit, image formation device, ten thousand lines area specifying method, document class discriminating method, computer program and recording medium in which optimal image processing can be performed on a ten thousand lines area by accurately specifying the ten thousand lines area in image data. PSOLUTION: An area separation processing section 14 of an image processing unit 10 extracts an area in the size of 7×7 including a target pixel from image data given from an input gradation correction section 13 and calculates a total sum of absolute values of differences of density between adjacent pixels in four directions of 0°, 90°, 45° and 135°. In a case where direction dependency exists in the calculated total sum, the target pixel is determined as a pixel included in the ten thousand lines area.
