PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a product design support system capable of increasing the speed of a search process for design items while guaranteeing conventional design quality using a PDM system. PSOLUTION: The product design support system comprises a PDM system, a database storing data information managed by the PDM system, and a business process system having a business application for executing business processes using an API for coordinating information with the PDM system, the PDM system, the database and the business process system being connected to one another via a network. The system determines whether or not an information processing request from the business application is a request to search the database; if the request is determined to be other than the search request, the system controls the PDM system to execute a process corresponding to the request in accordance with the API; if the request is determined to be the search request, the database is directly accessed without the intervention of the PDM system and the search process is executed.
