PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide auxiliary data in a wavelength division multiplex optical communication system by detecting each wave ID of an optical signal, which contains the plural modulated optical data signals of respectively different channel wavelengths, independently of the other wave ID.;SOLUTION: An optical data signal s1 is inputted to a transceiver 22, the strength of amplitude is modulated by a wave ID inserting device 28, and a signal s4 is outputted by multiplexing the other signal for multiplexing of an MDN 10 to a signal s3, for which a modulated optical data signal s2 is multiplexed with other two signals by a multiplexer 24, by a multiplexer 26. As a result, the multiplexed signal s4 contains 33 pieces of signals and has respectively different channel wavelengths and a channel source can be individually identified by the wave ID of each channel. Then, the signal s4 is effectively passed through an OADM 52, the wave ID is detected from the respective input signals s2, s3 and s4 by wave ID detectors 48a-48c of second site optical transmission equipment 40, and the wavelength source information of channels is detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
