In one embodiment, the present invention is a method of reducing peak-to-average power ratio of multi-carrier modulation symbols orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols or the like (PAPR). First, the method converts the multi-carrier modulation symbols and data symbol set. You can then use with the multi-carrier modulation symbols, and gradient descent algorithm, the method generates a symbol set on the PAPR reduction tone. Then, by converting the PAPR reduction symbols and the data symbols, the updated multi-carrier modulation symbols are generated. (For example, an acceptable PAPR until is achieved for the multi-carrier modulation symbols) termination condition to occur the PAPR reduction symbol is repeatedly updated. In another embodiment, using the above multi-carrier modulation symbols generated in the first step, a gradient descent algorithm to directly generate updated multi-carrier modulation symbols, the method, whereby the need to convert the PAPR reduction symbols and the data symbols in subsequent iterations is eliminated.
