PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader for cut paper or the like excellent in convenience capable of shortening, at the time of reading a cut paper to acquire both magnetic read data and image data, the time required for the work. PSOLUTION: The processor comprises carrying means 19 and 20 carrying a cut paper along a carrying passage; magnetic reading means 21 and 22 reading magnetic ink characters printed on the cut paper in the carrying passage and outputting the resulting magnetic read data; optical reading means 23 and 24 optically reading an image of the cut paper in the carrying passage and outputting the resulting image data; and a control means 11 interpreting a control command, and controlling the carrying operation, magnetic reading processing, and optical reading processing based on the result. A simultaneous read command instructs a simultaneous reading processing executing the magnetic reading processing and the optical reading processing by one carrying operation to the cut paper of a reading object.
