Copolymers based on unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivatives and oxyalkylene glycol-alkenyl ethers, processes for their preparation and their use

A copolymer (I) based on unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivatives and oxyalkylene glycol-alkenyl ethers contains (A) 1-90 mol.% units of formula (1a) and/or (1b); (B) 0.5-80 mole.% units of formula (2); (C) 0.5-80 mol.% units of formula (3a) and/or (3b); and (D) 1.0-90 mol.% units of formula -CH(R5)-C(R6)(R7)- (4), where M = H, a mono- or divalent metal cation, ammonium or organic amine; a = 1/2 or 1; R1 = -OaM or -O-(CmH2mO)n -; R2 = H, 1-20C hydrocarbon, 5-8C cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon or 6-14C alkyl, optionally substituted; m = 2-4; n = 1-200; R3 = H or 1-5C aliphatic hydrocarbon; p = 0-3; R4 = H, 1-20C aliphatic hydrocarbon, optionally substituted with OH, 5-8C cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, 6-14C aryl optionally substituted with -COOaM, -(SO3)aM and/or -(PO3)aM2 groups; -(CmH2mO)n-R2 or -CO-NH-R1; R5 = H, methyl or an optionally substituted methylene group or with R7 forms a 5-8 membered ring; R6 = H, methyl or ethyl; and R7 = H, 1-20C aliphatic hydrocarbon, 5-8C cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, 6-14C aryl, optionally substituted, -OCOR4, -OR4 or -COOR4. Also claimed is the production of (I) by polymerisation of 1-90 mol.% of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivative, 0.5-80 mol.% of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid imide and/or amide and 1.0-90 mol.% of a vinylic monomer in the presence of a radical initiator.
