PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating foreign substances such as suspended carbon and coating resin particulates from a resin coated carrier. PSOLUTION: In the method for separating the foreign substances in the carrier for an electrophotographic developer composed of core particles having magnetism and a resin layer for coating the surfaces of the particles, the foreign substances are removed from the inside of the particles by using a sieve having laminated meshes composed of at least two meshes including the mesh containing at least one resin as material in the uppermost layer, and sieving the particles for the carrier supplied onto the mesh of the uppermost layer while generating the air current from the upper side toward the lower side of the laminated meshes.
