PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a material for activating fatty acid--oxidation system of a peroxisome by which the activity of the fatty acid--oxidation system of the peroxisome is improved; and to provide a highly safe agent for activating the fatty acid--oxidation system of the peroxisome.;SOLUTION: The agent for activating the fatty acid--oxidation system of the peroxisome contains flavonoids represented by formula (I) (wherein, R1 is a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group; R2 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group; R3 is a hydroxy group, a lower alkoxy group or a sugar residue; R4 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group; and R' and R" are each a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group) as an active ingredient.
