PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for electrical connection to an ultrasonic converter via an acoustic backing layer.;SOLUTION: A converter element (12) is electrically connected with a pulser via a through hole (26) within an acoustic backing layer (14). A conductive material (28) is mounted on the front surface of the acoustic backing layer and then diced to form a conductive pad or is mounted on the wall of the through hole or via to form a conductive trace having an exposed terminal to be connected to a print circuit (16). Holes on the acoustic backing layer are filled with acoustic attenuation materials (30). A signal electrode on the rear surface of the converter element is electrically connected to the print circuit via the conductive pad and the conductive trace on the acoustic backing layer.
