PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device capable of efficiently oxidizing and eliminating the exhaust gas of a lean combustion gas engine without using a large amount of expensive catalyst even when a temperature of the exhaust gas is low, particularly in oxidizing and eliminating a hydrocarbon component by using an oxidation catalyst. SOLUTION: In this lean combustion gas engine exhaust gas purification method and this exhaust gas purification device, the exhaust gas is allowed to flow in a catalyst layer held between a pair of heat accumulating bodies in a state of alternately changing the flowing direction in the forward and backward directions.
