PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain output characteristics of a recording part and determine a correction value of an output density without using an expensive scanner. ;SOLUTION: A nozzle array comprised of a plurality of nozzles set to a recording head 13 is divided and set to a plurality of nozzle blocks (a)-(d). A patch corresponding to each nozzle block is formed by using only the nozzles in the same nozzle block. A size and a shape of the patch are set so that a density can be optically detected by a density sensor 30. A test pattern formed of the patches is detected by the density sensor to correct the density at nozzles of the recording head.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
