PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reception beam forming method capable of forming a sharp beam with high sensitivity even in a reception wave of a short pulse. ;SOLUTION: One reception wave beam is formed using 60 elements within a range of 90° by a cylindrical reception array. The elements 0-59 forming a beam 0 are divided longitudinally into two equal parts to form the reception wave beams divided into two groups. That is, the division into the group 1 (the element 0 - the element 8, the element 51 - the element 59) in a rear side with respect to a beam direction, and the group 2 (the element 9 - the element 50) in a front side is carried out to form the reception wave beam using a sampling data in this time scan period of the group 1 and a sampling data in the last scan period of the groups 2, and sampling is thereby allowed to catch the received wave in the whole array even in the case of a short pulse signal, so as to improve the directivity of beam formation, sensitivity and the like in the short pulse.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
