Unit comprising a vertical reactor containing a suspension of a solid comprising catalyst particles in a liquid, consists of :- (a) device of introducing gas at the lower extremity of the reactor ; (b) withdrawal point for gas at the upper extremity of the reactor ; and (c) a withdrawal point for part of the suspension. The unit comprises a means for the recirculation of part of the liquid fraction of the suspension attaining a velocity of circulation of the suspension Ul in the core of the reactor equal at least to the velocity of sedimentation of the solid particles.The gas and suspension circulate counter-currently.
