PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that a conventional aluminum oxide-containing ceramic cutting tool does not satisfy the required performance, particularly thermal shock resistance, fusing resistance and high temperature wear resistance are inferior in the high requirements for a dry cutting tool for cutting without using cutting oil originating from recent ecology problem and resource saving problem, an optimum cutting tool accompanied by the diversity including the material change of a material to be cut and a long life cutting tool under high speed cutting condition or a high load cutting condition. SOLUTION: The aluminum oxide-containing composite ceramic sintered compact is composed of 15-45 vol.% titanium carbonitride having the atomic ratio C:N of (0.1-0.7):(0.3-0.9), =10 vol.% Al-containing compound of at least one kind selected from nitride, carbide, oxide, carbon oxide and nitrogen oxide of Al, and the balance aluminum oxide with inevitable impurities.
