PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read, input and accumulate data by extracting and collating the size of an inputted slip, a slip ID, ruled line information, unique information or the like to determine the type of the slip and extracting, inputting and accumulating character information to reliably, quickly and automatically judge the type of the slip out of a plurality of types of slips regarding a slip recognizing device and a slip recognizing method for discriminating a plurality of slips to read data. PSOLUTION: This slip recognizing device has a means for reading the size of a slip, a means for judging a corresponding slip candidate on the basis of the read slip size, a means for extracting the ID of the slip candidate about the judged slip candidate and further extracting the unique information of the slip candidate if necessary to determine the slip, and a means for extracting data on the basis of information on the determined slip for recognition.
