The suspension is pre-treated by mild dewatering and then subjected to vibrating membrane filtration. A process for separating an aqueous liquid suspension of organic material into a concentrated solid fraction and a liquid fraction with a low solids content comprises an optional coagulation and flocculation step, a preliminary mechanical separation step comprising at least one so-called mild dewatering stage, and a subsequent membrane filtration step comprising vibrating membrane filtration. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Apparatus for carrying out this process; (2) Energy-efficient integrated treatment method for manure and/or at least one organic waste stream, comprising bio-fermentation of the waste and recovering the biogas; burning the biogas in a motor to produce electricity and heat; separating the sludge from the bio-fermentation step into a wet solid fraction and a liquid fraction with a low solids content using a preliminary mechanical separation step comprising at least one mild dewatering stage, followed by vibrating membrane filtration; and drying the solid fraction using the heat generated during burning of the biogas; and (3) Installation for performing this treatment method.
