Fields for presentable files can be determined by an application (i) based on a field type and at least one field parameter and (ii) responsive to raw data and a separate transformation mechanism even when the application is unaware of mechanics of the separate transformation mechanism. In an implementation described for a given field, the field type indicates that the given field must be evaluated based on the raw data that is provided by reference through at least one parameter of the given field. The transformation mechanism is applied to the referenced raw data to produce a result for the given field that is suitable for presentation. Schemes for bibliographies and citations facilitate the use of bibliographic information. A schema for bibliographic information defines a structure for bibliographic information. Bibliographic information can be embedded in a document, incorporated as a master list, and so on.
