ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of medicated cosmetic talcum powder from the root culture derived sweet scented root extract compound, 2 hydroxy 4 methoxy benzaldehyde, from the plant H. indices by production of fast growing and productive hairy roots by Agro bacterium trilogies strain TR 105 medicated genetic transformation composing raising of aseptic shoot cultures from one year old field grown plant by surface sterilization of tender stem segments and culturing in half strength MS agar nutrient medium (pH 5.8) containing 0.4 mg 1-1 BAP and 0.2 mg 1-1 NAA and 3% sucrose, Inoculating actively growing Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain TR 105 into the wounded nodal and interposal portions of the in vitro derived shoots (5-7 cm) and cultured in agar gelled half salts strength MS hormone free medium for 1-2 months, dissecting out the hairy roots elicited from the wounded sites of the nodes and internodes and cultuhng in the fresh medium containing 250 mg 1-1 carbencillin for two weeks and then harvesting the roots and sub culturing into the same fresh medium for one week and then the hairy roots are harvested for the extraction purpose, preparation of the root extract from 250 fresh g of the harvested hairy roots by air drying, powdering and extracting with 200 ml petroleum ether for 40-50 hours under room temperature and filtering the extract under vacuum, concentrated to 100 ml (standard procedure), manufacture of the said talcum powder from 100 ml of the root extract in petroleum ether as obtained above by adding 100 g of pure talcum powder (S.d. fine chemicals) under constant stirring and making a paste of the powder and extract, drying the paste in an air circulated oven at 85'-' C for 6-7 hours until petroleum ether is completely evaporated, mixing the powdered mixture so obtained with 900 g of pure talcum powder under continuous stirring in a closed vessel for 5-10 min. until the impregnated extract and pure talcum powder are uniformly mixing and the medicated talcum powder obtained. y
