The present invention relates to the identification of novel genes expressed in intra-abdominal fat cells of a mammal that express negative impact on glucose control in mammals having substantial quantity of visceral fat. The invention provides for exploitation of gene products expressed in intra-abdominal fat cells as drug targets for treatment of metabolic disorders associated with obesity. It also provides a process for identifying the such novel genes.
