A digital microwave relay communication system is provided, in which the relay station of each section of link is comprised of a frequency division duplex microwave relay equipment. The frequency division duplex microwave relay equipment is comprised of a baseband interface, a TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) multiplex module, a TDM demultiplex module, a modulation module, a demodulation module, an out-door unit module, an office interface, a monitor module and so on. The frequency division duplex microwave relay equipment of each relay station is a set of frequency division duplex bi-directional microwave relay equipment. A method implemented by using the system mentioned above is also provided, which uses a cross connection module to select from the two demodulated and demultiplex signal the portion which need to be sent to the interface and send the portion to the baseband interface, and separates the signal which need to be sent to another direction and transmits it to the TDM multiplex module to make it be multiplexed, modulated and sent to another direction. The system of the invention has rational structure and low cost, and it can be conveniently installed and maintained and has good effect, therefore can be implemented to substitute the current product. The method of the invention has simple process and high efficiency.
