SKELETAL HIP IMPLANT FOR TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY

This device is used to restore the arthritic hip joint in Total Hip Arthroplasty. It has three components, namely the femoral component, acetabular component and the acetabular liner. The femoral component has a skeletal stem and a spherical head. The femoral stem and neck has a hexagonal base cross-section. The acetabular cup has four circular provisions for fixing with the acetabulum using screws. The acetabular liner is designed to articulate with the head of the femoral component. This skeletal stem is designed to offer better bone - implant interface and provide reduced stress shielding on the femur. This novel design would ameliorate the implant fixation, aid in optimal rigidity, enhance the medullary revascularization and minimize the discomfort to the patient.
