A DEVICE FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF RESIDUAL CHLORINE USED AS A DISINFECTANT IN DRINKING WATER

A device for the measurement of residual chlorine used as a disinfectant in drinking water comprising a programmed microcontroller; a chamber provided with first, second and third valve means; said first valve means being operable by the microcontroller for introducing a predetermined quantity of a chlorine detecting chemical reagent into the chamber; said second valve means being operable by the microcontroller for allowing a predetermined quantity of the drinking water into the chamber to mix with the said chemical reagent in the chamber and thus colour the said drinking water to indicate the quantity of the chlorine present in the water; a light source for passing light through the coloured water in the chamber through entiy and exit windows provided on either side of the chamber; a spectrum analyser activated by the microcontroller to read and interpret the colour of the light emerging at the exit window and thereby display the quantity of chlorine present in the water in ppm (parts per million) on a digital display; and the said third valve means being operable by the microcontroller for draining off the coloured water in the chamber thereafter.
