The invention relates to a containment system for vehicle lateral impacts, of the type formed by a continuous horizontal railing which is made from a combination of metal and wood and which consists of two or more wood logs of identical preferably-rectangular cross-section, said logs being reinforced with the same metal section having a preferably sigma-shaped cross-section and interconnected longitudinally using a metal plate. The railing is supported at regular intervals by metal posts which are inserted or nailed into the ground and fitted externally with a wood cover comprising three or more flat wood battens. The railing is attached to the posts using a metal spacer in the form of a stirrup, formed by a main omega-shaped horizontal part which joins the ends of consecutive railings to one another and an inner U-shaped part which includes a star-shaped hole so as to form a fusible connection between the stirrup and the post. In addition, a metal support plate is provided between the front part of the wood cover and the core of the metal stirrup.
