The device has crop gripping parts in which crops (5) are arranged. A base is tilted from an open position to a closed position so that the crops are received from a plant (3) and placed on a pot (2), where the base is tilted at 45 degrees. A closing unit automatically closes the gripping parts by moving the base from the open position to a placement position. A control part opens the gripping parts, when the gripping parts are in the closed position. An independent claim is also included for a method for gripping crops.
