In an electrolytic aluminum production plant including a cathodic vessel (1), an anode (2), a cutting tool (9) for breaking up the crust (5) formed in the anode region and an electronic unit (11) for generating an alternating current and measuring the current and/or potential between the cutting tool and cathodic vessel, the base region of the cutting tool forms an electrode, electronically connected to the electronic unit.
