The cigarette production machine has a transfer station to handle the filter and double-filter corks (10,11), to carry them between transport systems (13,15). The transfer unit has a swing movement, with a holder (16) for a cigarette filter, and successive transfer units (17a,17b) in the peripheral direction. At least two transfer units are axially offset against each other, each with an independent swing movement. The transfer station has a rotating drum (14) to take up the filters separately at the station (52) at the first transport system, and deliver them to the second transport system as axially stacked filters at a hand-over station (53).
