The invention relates to a method for the inactivation of bacteria that contaminate open wounds, by using the photodynamic effect, meant to by applied in the veterinary medicine. According to the invention, the method comprises the administration of a photosensitive substance on the infected surface, followed by the irradiation of the contaminated surface with coherent light whose wavelength corresponds to the maximum of absorption of the photosensitive substance.
