The method involves storing a preset reference value for a contact pressure of a granulating blade (3) at a perforated plate and a given tolerance range in a control unit. An actual value of the blade contact pressure at the plate is compared with the reference value. A pneumatic cylinder is controlled during deviation of the actual value from the reference value. An adjustment impulse is transmitted from the cylinder to a pinion (8), which transfers the impulse to a shaft bearing (5) of a blade shaft (1) over a toothed rack (7), for axially displacement of the shaft with a blade head (2). An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for automatically controlling a contact pressure of a granulating blade of a thermosetting plastic strand granulating device.
