A process for the contactless measuring of distances to aircraft in the process of positioning said aircraft, such as when the aircraft performs the docking or parking in which a scanning laser (2), associated with a device for measuring the distance (1), is directed towards an area along a center line (3) along which it is intended that an aircraft (4) to move in the positioning of said aircraft and is placed in front of an aircraft is to be placed, said laser (2) being adapted to emit measuring pulses (6) stepwise at different angles so as to detect a volume predetermined measurement, characterized in that said laser (2) makes is calibrated with the distance from the laser (2) to the ground with respect to at least some of said angles; that the laser (2) is caused to measure the distance at said angles during positioning of an aircraft (4); because the measured distances are compared with said calibrated distances in a computer (7) belonging to the measuring distance (1); and that the laser (2) is considered to have measured the correct distance when there is a predetermined agreement with said calibrated distance.
