A composition comprising non-covalent hapten-carrier bioconjugates having the formula: HM ---- CM in which HM is indocyanine green; CM is a carrier molecule selected from the group consisting of polyaspartic acid and polyguanilic acid; and the dashed line is a non-covalent bond between the carrier molecule and the indocyanine green.
