A trocar system (10) comprising: a cannula (1000) including a housing (1002) and a cannula sleeve (1004) of cannula extending from the housing (1002) of cannula; and an obturator assembly (00) capable of being positioned at least partially within the cannula so that the seal assembly including: a housing (102) of the shutter; a shaft (104) shutter, connected or attached to the obturator housing; a sheet (190) shutter, connected or attached to the obturator shaft, such that the obturator shaft and the obturator blade are configured for relative rotational movement; a protective member (116, 130) coaxially mounted around the obturator blade and adapted for longitudinal movement between a first position substantially enclosing the obturator blade and a second position to expose or uncover, the least partially, the obturator blade; a latching member (156) positioned within the obturator housing to prevent longitudinal movement of the protective member, so that the latch member has an initial position securing the protective member in the first position such that the latch member is movable to the actuated position operatively releasing the protective member to permit the protective member to move to the second position thereof; and an indicator collar (132, 300), disposed within the obturator housing and mounted to the protective member, so that the indicator collar is adapted for longitudinal movement with the protective member when moving the latch member to the actuated position, so that the indicator collar includes an indicator member (140) configured to provide visual confirmation to the user of the location of the protective member, characterized in that: the indicator collar and the protective member are configured for relative movement of rotation, and the protective member is located within the obturator housing and is rotatable relative thereto.
