Mobilization of viral genomes from T-DNA using systems specific recombination sites.

A method of mobilizing a viral replicon of a T-DNA, comprising: a) providing an Agrobacterium replicon comprising a T-DNA containing a viral replicon flanked by directly repeated target sites for a site specific recombinase; b) infecting a plant cell with an Agrobacterium carrying said Agrobacterium replicon under conditions that allow transfer of said T-DNA and expression of said site-specific recombinase in said cell; wherein said cell, said T-DNA, or said viral replicon comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding said recombinase or an active fragment or an active variant thereof, and said nucleotide sequence is operably linked to a promoter that controls the expression in said cell.
