The invention provides a synthetic combination of a Sebacina vermiferaendophyte and a host grass plant, wherein the endophyte reproduces asexuallyandenhances the agronomic characteristics of the host plant. Methods forinoculating thehost plant with the endophyte, for propagating the host-endophyte combination,and fordetecting the presence of the endophyte and of its metabolites within a hostplant are alsodescribed.
