The invention relates to a method for integrating additional fragmented information on a set of characters, particularly for improving the correction of reading errors of these characters or information matching the text itself or the production thereof. The method can be applied to characters capable of coding parameters in addition to their intrinsic value. Each character codes at least one half-byte of redundant information. In order to distinguish the order of the half-bytes, the structure of the character header is modified so that it is possible to code and distinguish as many hierarchical levels or rows as there are constitutive columns per character, i.e. 2 levels for 2-column characters for distinguishing the low-order half-byte from the high-order half-byte for each redundancy byte. The redundancy percentage is factually limited to 50%. The writing of the redundancy dot series should be in the direction opposite to that of the intrinsic information for parasite resistance reasons, but it can also be distributed in other ways. If the additional piece of information is a redundancy one, two other levels are added to this (so-called general inner) redundancy level: an individual type level with column parities, and an outer level at the end of the character row such as the CRC. These crossed-redundancy devices make the reading more reliable. As the character structures or tags are identical to that of the machine representative bytes, the properties of the first apply to the second and vice versa.
