The invention relates to the use of synthetically produced or plant-derived flavonoids, the derivatives thereof, and/or degradation products thereof for the therapeutic and prophylactic treatment of aggregation- and folding-aberration diseases. This means particularly preparations of skullcap (scutellaria) and plants with similar agents (e.g. parsley, celery, chamomile, and chrysanthemum), as well as the agents contained therein in their pure form or in combinations (including the already known materials baicalein, baicalin, etc) as therapeutically and/or prophylactically active substances for prion infections and other neurodegenerative protein folding-aberration diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, senile amyloidosis, tauopathies, etc.) for humans and animals.
